Ramsey Lama recently founded Ramsey Lama Law, focusing on post-conviction and appellate advocacy, doubling down on his commitment to serve the incarcerated population of Fremont County and throughout the state of Colorado.
Ramsey brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to his practice. Before establishing his firm, he served as a District Court Judge in the 11th Judicial District (Fremont, Chaffee, Park, and Custer Counties) from 2016 to 2020. During this time, he presided over a mixed caseload, including criminal, civil, domestic relations, juvenile, and dependency and neglect cases. In 2020, he was assigned a dedicated criminal docket, overseeing felony cases. Over his tenure, he presided over more than 45 jury trials, including four homicide trials.
Ramsey’s trial experience extends beyond his years as a judge. Before his appointment to the bench, he worked as a Colorado State Public Defender in the Salida and Grand Junction Regional Offices (2008–2012), where he represented individuals accused of serious crimes. In this role, he also mentored and trained attorneys, served as the Grand Junction Regional Office’s Immigration Liaison, and was nominated for “Attorney of the Year” at the 2010 Annual Public Defender Conference.
In 2012, Ramsey opened a solo practice specializing in criminal defense. Over the years, he has represented thousands of clients facing charges ranging from misdemeanors to serious felonies, including first-degree murder, sexual assault, drug distribution, domestic violence, and DUI.
In 2016, at just 34 years old, Ramsey was appointed to the District Court bench by Governor Hickenlooper, making him one of the youngest district court judges in Colorado’s history. Most judges serve until retirement, but in 2022, after nearly seven years on the bench, Ramsey chose to step down to return to practicing law. His unique perspective from the other side of the bench gives him insights few attorneys possess.
Ramsey’s dedication to the criminal justice system has been recognized statewide. Colorado Supreme Court Chief Justice Brian Boatright appointed him to serve on the Commission for Alternate Defense Counsel, a role that reflects his commitment to justice and advocacy.
